🤫 Should we bring the pod back?

Hey Reader,

I just realized that Shrinking season 3 came back today, and the first episode is just waiting for me to clock off work... so, we'll see how writing this email goes 🤣

The Messy Middle

You know how running your business means you can do whatever you want? I started this week by giving Jo a 7 point pitch on why we should bring the podcast back... and I think she might agree.

I'll give you the 7 reasons, but only if you agree to hit reply and tell me if it's a good idea or not... deal? ... deal?

  1. One of our big goals is "longer shelf life" content this year, we could record & publish a podcast in roughly the same amount of time it's taking me to write a (good) blog post. And with a summary & transcript going on the blog you're now hitting 2 platforms with the same amount of our time.
  2. Podcast clips are some of my favorite content on IG right now, and with (mostly) automatic tools now available for making short form video out of podcast recordings, this could be an "easy" social media content creator as well.
  3. "If you don't have a stage to speak on, create your own." I'm not sure where I heard the quote, but it's a real chicken vs egg situation. People want to book speakers who have examples of speaking, but without a stage it's hard to show yourself speaking. A podcast is a consistent place we can show us using our voices.
  4. Podcasters collaborate with podcasters. If we're creating a "stage" we'll definitely leverage the perks of putting people on our stage. We'd love the opportunity to show up in front of other people audiences.
  5. We run a community for creative service providers. Each week we have conversations about basically all parts of running their business. But we rarely have enough time to go as deep on one topic as we really could.
  6. People in The Breakroom LOVED when we did a mini-podcast breakdown of our 2026 goals a few weeks ago because it gave them the ability to tap into "us" while they were doing things rather than being tied to a screen.
  7. A podcast is the easiest way to get time to ask people I want to learn from questions. Even if no one listens, if we get to form new connections, get face time, & improve ourselves as coaches it's worth it.

The pitch: what if each podcast answered one question a creative service provider is trying to solve, answered as an interview with an expert.

Remember we had a deal. I shared the 7 point pitch, should we do this?

Overheard in The Breakroom

What if you could ask a professional web designer for thoughts on your new website? That's exactly what one of our members did in the "Ask The Community" space, and got a thoughtful (& detailed) response from someone else about tweaks they could make. - see the details for the Breakroom here.

We Wrote That

Multitasking is a lie. At least that’s what I’ve come to believe the more I learn about psychology.

We’ve discussed time management with multiple coaching clients recently, so I figured it was time to consolidate multiple reframes all in one place.

In this blog, I’ll break down 6 concepts & practices that have been the most impactful on how I manage my time. ‍

True multitasking is a myth

Process mapping and planning use the terms “sequential” and “parallel” to describe the order in which things happen.

  • Sequential (as it sounds) means you have to finish the first task before the next one starts.
  • Parallel means that both can happen at the same time.

I like to imagine our brains work much like how our hands work, they can only work on one thing at a time but “can” switch between tasks fairly easily - but that comes with a cost.

Your brain has a context-switching cost

The human brain has a metaphorical toll booth between each task/context you’re working on.

  • Best-case scenario, you can just pay the toll (drop in quality, burnt toast) and go on to the next/other task.
  • In reality, that toll booth usually has a traffic jam, so your brain ends up taking time to switch between tasks while you wait for the traffic.

Resource of the Week

Do you have to be well known to have a big impact on your industry? Colin and Samir comparatively have a pretty small Youtube channel for the size of their impact on the Youtube community. They're on a texting basis with many of the biggest Youtubers, and have even given presentations at Youtube events.

They got specific about their niche and how they could educate in a way only they could. Creating a 1 of 1 business that no one else can replicate.

They were featured in Rolling Stone this month in a great piece about the ups (& downs) of being a creative and running a business. This is the paragraph I sent to Jo and I was reading it, because its a phase that so many business owners have gone through.

Sometimes it's an email out of the blue, following up with a past client, or that pitch you've been putting off sending that'll change everything for you.

About that deal... have you hit reply about the pod yet?

See ya next week,

Lyndon

Ps, this is the last week if you sign up for The Breakroom you'll get this custom Breakroom Hydroflask Tumbler.
