We launched a podcast! 🎙️

Hey Reader,

We went to LA last weekend to spend time with my sister and it was just what my soul needed (check out our photo dump)! Now we're home and back-to-business, and boy do we have some fun things in the works.

The Messy Middle

We launched a podcast...in less than two weeks.🎙️✨

A couple of weeks ago, Lyndon told me "I want to launch a podcast"

To which I said, "Same."

Then a week later he said, "I want to release the first episode next week."

So off to the races we went.

Lyndon started lining up interviews.

We recorded our first episode on a Tuesday.

Lyndon finished editing the episode on Wednesday.

Claire of @bloomingdesign.co designed our Podcast cover on Thursday (we approved it as we were boarding our flight for LA for a weekend getaway).

We flew home & got everything scheduled on Monday.

The podcast dropped on Tuesday.

When things happen, they happen quickly.

This is your reminder that you can create your own momentum, people are more likely to say yes than you think they are, and there's a lot that can go RIGHT, too. 😉

We have more guests lined up for the podcast over the next few weeks & cannot wait for you to listen to them!!

In the meantime, how cute is the podcast cover Claire created for us?!? You can watch her design process here.

Check out our first episode on Pinterest Marketing with @itscoleylane!

Overheard in The Breakroom

Every month in The Breakroom we have Hot Seat Coaching, where each member gets to ask Lyndon and I a question and we coach them on it. This month one of our members asked about re-launching her template shop, and afterwards the lightbulbs started popping off! This is what she shared in our member portal afterwards:

Next week we're hosting PitchFest (our version of Shark Tank), where you'll have a chance to pitch your offer and get feedback on how to refine your messaging so you can make more sales. Want to come? Click here for more details.

Beyond the Instagram Scroll: How to Build a Local Referral Engine from Scratch

The first few years of business often feel like magic. You tell a few friends you’re starting a design studio or a photography business, and suddenly, the inquiries just...appear. Your cousin’s wedding, your best friend’s startup, that one coworker who needed a headshot. It feels effortless.

But then, the "low-hanging fruit" runs out.

And suddenly, you find yourself on the content hamster wheel. You’re posting Reels three times a week, stressing over trending audio, and engaging with strangers in the comments, all in the hopes that the algorithm will bless you with a lead.

If you’re feeling exhausted by the digital hustle, you aren’t alone. We hear this frequently inside The Breakroom. The leads that used to come naturally have dried up, and the effort required to get new ones feels heavier than ever.

But what if the answer wasn't more content? What if the most sustainable way to grow your creative business wasn't finding a viral hook, but finding the right 50 people in your own backyard?

Today, we’re breaking down a strategy that came directly from a recent Peer Mastermind. How to shift the focus from global, passive social media marketing to intentional, active local networking.

It’s time to get off the feed and get into the room.

Phase 1: The "Math" & The Mindset

The biggest mistake we see creative entrepreneurs make when they decide to "do networking" is thinking they need to reach everyone. You print 500 business cards, go to a massive mixer, and hand them out like confetti...

Resource of the Week

Earlier this week I listened to Maggie Sellers' interview with Steven Bartlett and I've been quoting it ever since. My biggest takeaways were:

  • Push the Paper Wall: there's always a solution if you're willing to ask the right questions and move accordingly.
  • You are happy in your life when your expectations of life are being met

Hey Reader, Last week I asked you guys to send over your resource of the week, and @eleanorelainephoto understood the assignment. You're welcome. The Messy Middle I'm writing this next to our dining room table, which is chalk to the block full of props. Books. Polaroid camera. Wine glasses & a variety of Poppi. Magnets. Stickers. Anything and everything that is considered "on-brand" for The Breakroom, because... Wednesday we're hosting our first ever Content Day for our members. There are 7...

Hey Reader, This week has been very confusing in the sense that I have no idea what day it is. Just me or you, too? All I know is we leave tomorrow to see family for the weekend and next week we get to see our Breakroom members in-person for our first ever Content Day (we're pumped). I can't wait to give them all big bear hugs!! Speaking of in-person... The Messy Middle We've known for a minute that we want to host more in-person events and this year finally feels like the right time. I have...

Hey Reader, The theme of today is...no longer doing it all yourself. We're talking about outsourcing. Let's get straight into it. The Messy Middle If you're like me, you like to do everything yourself. Scratch that, you WANT someone to step in and do things for you, but the thought of handing over control is just too much. Too risky. The thought of outsourcing or letting go of certain tasks or responsibilities probably feels like this: You'd rather just white-knuckle it and do it yourself....
