Hi Reader,
Between "winter is coming" season and the amount of vulnerable things I've done/said this year, my nervous system has been in a perpetual state of needing to be reminded that it's safe.
So, in today's email I thought I'd share some of my go-to's for taking care of your mental health as an entrepreneur.
Whether you're pivoting, dealing with a viral piece of content you didn't expect, re-setting boundaries, navigating complicated relationships, or dealing with loss behind-the-scenes...this one's for you. π«ΆπΌ
How to take care of your mental health as an entrepreneur:
Take Breaks:
This one feels obvious, but...let's be real, if you're an over-achiever with a hefty dose of people pleaser...it's hard to slow down. Here's a couple of ways I actively make space for breaks in our business/life:
Every weekend I log off of social media. Friday night is my cue to stop, drop, and roll into the weekend with no reminders of work. Instead, we read, watch church, get outside, and connect with our people. It's time to simply BE.
I have a "clock off routine" for the evenings. A few years ago I realized I needed a way to detach from work at the end of the day. L & I go for a walk, then I change into comfy clothes & put my hair up to signal to my body that it's time to clock off. We make dinner, watch a good TV show, and then I read something fiction before bed while I sip on my Magnesium berry-flavored tea.
On this note, I've been sending L posts from this Instagram account lately because they're so spot on. ππΌ

Ask for (and accept) help:
This one's a big one, and boy did I need the reminder this weekend. A couple of weeks ago, we got back from traveling and I realized the house was a hot mess. Naturally, I poured all my energy into cleaning & de-cluttering as much as I could. It felt so good to have things tidied up, so I made it my mission to stay on top of the dishes for the next week (the biggest culprit). Which was great at first, until...it all caught up and I realized I needed to ask for help.
So, I asked Lyndon if he would help with folding laundry (which sat in our room for almost an entire week because...life) and the following day he not only folded laundry, he also did the dishes, mowed the lawn, and made us food.
This is all stuff he does on the regular anyway, so it's not out of the ordinary, but I'd gotten so in the zone that I mentally couldn't let myself rest until I asked for help - out loud.
Oftentimes, we take on responsibilities and then become resentful of others for not helping out when they aren't aware we even want/need it.
So take this as your reminder to ask for (and then accept!!) help in the areas you're feeling a bit overwhelmed and need someone to help share the load.
Get Yourself a Community That Brings Out Your Best Self:
This year I've been reminded more than ever that who you spend your time with affects your mental health more than you realize.
Who are the people that you can be your full self around? The ones you feel safe with? Be around them as often as possible.
Schedule FaceTime dates, go for coffee walks, send voice memos, plan trips to see each other when you can, ask them to hold space for you when you need it.
If you don't know who those people are for you yet, start getting involved in spaces that you have common interests in. Book clubs, work-out classes, retreats, church, reaching out to local business owners to see if they want to meet up and co-work at a coffee shop.
Will it take some effort? Yes, but you're worth the effort.
Don't underestimate the power of a solid community.
It truly changes everything for the better.
That's a wrap for this week! Do what you need to do to take care of your mental health. It's so important. Take breaks, ask for help, be around your community. It's worth it.
You've got this!
