Hey Reader, It’s Jo. Your Chief Brand [Positioning] Officer, resident Launch Aficionado, Creative Connoisseur, and Professional Pivoter. Usually, Lyndon is the one to write these emails, but this week I felt like taking a turn & when the moment strikes, hand me a mic. If you've been paying attention to the easter eggs I've been dropping on socials all week, you'll know we've been teasing a pretty big change for our membership. And today is the day we finally reveal it. Spoiler alert: we re-named our membership. And boy, does it feel good. Nearly 10 months after launching our membership into the world (formerly known as The Breakroom), we realized we outgrew the version we started with. Which is the whole idea, right? You want to build a business and offer that grows. And yet, I don't think either of us expected to make a change like this so soon. Kinda a wild realization, to be honest. We recorded a whole episode on the Sustainable Creator Podcast about why we re-named our membership and what you can expect moving forward. It's a really fun one & we're genuinely excited for you to listen to it! In the meantime, here's the memo I sent to our members regarding our name change: After a lot, a lot, a lottttt of discussion, brainstorming, researching, and back-and-forth…
WE OFFICIALLY HAVE A NEW NAME FOR THIS MEMBERSHIP.
If this is complete news to you, let me back up and give context before revealing the new name.
Why the heck are we changing the name?
Tbh, this is something my intuition has been telling me for a hot minute and let’s be real, I ignored it for as long as I could. Until…a couple of weeks ago, Lyndon casually said: “I’m wondering if we need to re-name The Breakroom.” and I said: immediately yes.
Put simply, we had a hunch that “The Breakroom” felt too casual. Like hanging out or taking a break. And that’s not the vibe here. We want to implement. Build cool, thriving businesses. Satisfy our need for more knowledge and building skills that set us apart. Establish authority as trusted experts in our respected industries. (And you don’t really do that in a breakroom. Not really).
But, we wanted to verify our hunch before going full send. So we brought the question to our next scheduled membership call (conveniently scheduled for the same afternoon) and unanimously, everyone immediately agreed: “Y’all need to change it.”
One member in particular said, “I was confused when I heard the name because it didn’t match everything we talked about when I met you.”
Another said, “The reason it took me so long to join was because the branding is so casual and playful, I didn’t know if it was what I needed.”
[Both of those members have gotten massive value from being in the space already]
‘Nuff said.
So we got to work.
We drafted up name after name (you should have seen my notebook & our whiteboard). Cross-checked every plausible option to see if usernames were available (most weren’t).
And after what felt like endless options…we finally found it.
So without further ado, allow us to introduce you to the new name for this membership:
Creative Maven Society.
Obviously, this is a space for creative service providers.
The word “Maven” = a trusted expert.
And that’s all of you. You’re creatives. Experts. And this is a space where we all come together to build, learn, and implement.
You’ve probably noticed we’ve been going through a re-brand in the background. Leveling up our content, branding photos, and our own brand positioning. We’ve been craving deeper, more high-level — we want to do more (at a higher quality level).
And that includes this space.
We’re so grateful for The Breakroom. It got us here. But, what got us here won’t get us there. And we’re really freaking excited for where we’re going.
Of course, of course, of course (!!) I have more to say, but if you want to hear the rest of my thoughts (and Lyndon's too, obvi) then tune into today's podcast episode here. PS, tomorrow is the last day to join at the founders rate for Creative Maven Society (wow that feels so good to say out loud)! Click here to apply. Jo |

Hey Reader, Do you know how to put a Jeep wrangler into 4 wheel drive, to go over a "foot tall" rock? Yea we didn't either. ~4.5 years ago we were in Sedona doing a photo shoot for a dietitian who had rented a Jeep for her photo shoot. We were closing in on the end of her photoshoot, and daylight, and the last thing on the shot list was about 100 yards into an offroading trail. Only problem we realized after we got to the trail... there was this foot tall rock ledge all the way across the...
Happy Thursday Reader, I have a confession to make... I think I might think about hot dog stands more than most people. Shortly before writing this I was recording a lesson for... *have we announced this yet(?)*... a course we're launching soon. And I spent a solid 5 mins figuring out how to make it look like I've worked at a hot dog stand. I'm not the canva pro in this business... Recently I've been thinking about two phrases: They could sell snow to an eskimo It's as easy as selling water...
Hey Reader, Do you ever say something in passing that your brain latches onto and keeps turning on? During a coaching call this week I brought up the idea of a "sea of sameness", a phrase I haven't thought about since grad school. A sea of sameness is defined as: a market where competing brands look, sound, and act so much alike that customers cannot tell them apart. As creative service providers sometimes this feels like what our job is, if we're doing basically the same thing as our...
