Did you remember to say thank you?

Hi Reader,

Yesterday during our Pivoting In Public office hours call, where we make space for anyone in the group program to ask questions, someone opened up with 2 solid minutes of how much the program has impacted her & her business in 4 short weeks.

We're talking doubled her income, closed a side hustle sale she hasn't in a long time, and even got her baking business products into an upscale brick and mortar grocery store.

All without launching the offer she started the program for, or completing much of the homework that we review each week.

The thing that really stood out to us - we didn't ask. She just offered it all before she got to the question she had to ask.

Lesson 1: You have no idea

This round of Pivoting in Public had a money back guarantee if the peeps weren't able to 1) launch a new offer & 2) book a client by the end of the program.

Aka: we're definitely paying attention to everyone's progress.

Not to mention we, like many service providers & educators, genuinely care about the impact that we're delivering to our customers.

All that to say, the feedback was a little surprising because based on the narrow success metrics we were paying attention to, we questioned whether we were having that big of an impact. But one little statement from her made us pull back and realize that she was applying what we were teaching to the other parts of her multi-pasionate life.

We were making a difference... we just had no idea.

Lesson 2: Say the quiet part out loud

Getting off that call brought up the question for me - who's making a difference to me, that I've just assumed they knew?

Saying thank you is honestly not that hard. Every day I interact with people in person & online, and sure, I say "thanks", but when was the last time that I took time to be specific about what I was actually thankful for?

  • What if I told the people at the pizza place that "I loved how the crust turned out just right", rather than "it was good"?
  • What if I looped back to our web designer who built the sales page for The Breakroom and shared the comments that we're hearing in DMs on how it sounds amazing, that how the sales page is laid out makes it clear who it's for, and the page looks great?
  • Each week we have coffee chats where we invite 3-5 business owners to build community - but do I ever follow up with a personal thank you message after the fact about why we appreciated having them on the call?

Any of these would take a couple minutes at most - but they could be the thing that makes someone's day.

I'm gonna challenge you to thank someone for something specific this week, and tell them how it made you feel. That little extra mile is what makes it special.

I'll go first - I'm thankful that you opened this email today, and honestly made it this far down. As someone who cares about impact, hearing from you guys in conversations how you're learning from and applying the things we talk about in these emails makes it worth the effort each week.

Have a great weekend!

Lyndon

Ps can you do us a huge favor? If you made it this far in the email can you hit reply and say "I made it to the deep end"?

We're going with a summer throwback since it feels like spring in Indy right now Hey Reader, Welcome back! After two weeks off from writing our weekly emails, we're coming back to you with a new idea of what our email in 2026 could look like. Below in the Messy Middle we'll break down why we're making this change. We Wrote That You had a great discovery call, the client was excited about starting to work with you, and they paid their deposit with no hesitation - they seemed like an ideal...

Hi Reader, In a little under 3 weeks we've done 3000+ miles of driving, not including our normal driving while at home. Across all those miles we followed a trusty GPS to get us to where we were going. But even with that, one missed turn would delay how long it would take us to get to our destination. If we go back as little as one or two centuries, there was no GPS or even printed maps - traveling was based on understanding the direction you were heading (and/or traveling with someone who's...

Hi Reader, Like much of the entrepreneurial world, I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting on this year. The beginning of this year took us both by surprise in ways we didn’t expect. Like many of us, we came into the year with big goals and aspirations. We started taking action on those goals & making them known, only to be met with resistance we didn’t anticipate (something that doesn’t shock me at all now, but at the time felt like a blow to the stomach). There’s a phrase that is attributed to...
